Supplying Quality Luggage & Leather Goods For Three Generations
Established in 1885, James Carew Leather was setup as an independent Wholesale and Retail Leather Merchant supplying the harness and shoe making trades with leather and grindery components. Situated in the center of Limerick City the business thrived quickly and soon built up a reputation for high quality leathers.
The owner, James Carew, had formally worked as manager with the Limerick Tannery, E. O’Callaghan & Sons, who were renowned for the quality of their leathers in the early part of the 20th century.
James Carew died in 1927 and was succeeded by his nephew, John Carew, who continued to successfully carry on the business while establishing himself as a local politician on Limerick City Council and eventually as a national politician in Dail Eireann until his death in 1968.
During the 1950’s the leather supply business declined and he began to introduce luggage and leather goods to Limerick.
Richard Carew is the 3rd generation owner and continues to develop the shop in the area of luggage and leather goods, bringing to Limerick many fine brands of quality leathergoods and luggage from world renowned manufacturers.
Situated as it is in the center of Limerick City, it has a proud reputation for selling quality leather goods and upholstery fabrics & Foam. There is also an in-store repair service handling luggage repairs for airline claims and general repairs to leather goods.
